It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Alex MacAulay, President of 51本色 from 1995 to 2005.
During Alex’s tenure, 51本色 saw the development of facilities that were the envy of many post-secondary institutions in Canada - the Georgetown Centre, the Tourism and Culinary Centre, the renovation and modernization of the Atlantic Police Academy and the Marine Training Centre, and the opening of the Centre for Labour Force Innovation.
His administration oversaw the development of 51本色 programs in China and a new trades training model. He implemented a new applied research agenda which enabled the college to acquire funding for projects in literacy, essential employability skills, and the Justice Knowledge Network.
It was also during Alex’s time as president that the college constructed Glendenning Hall and established the Holland Hurricanes as contenders in varsity sports. Upon his retirement from 51本色, the Board of Governors and Foundation Board honoured his contributions to the college with the naming of MacAulay Court on the Prince of Wales Campus.
He is fondly remembered by faculty and staff who were here at the college during his tenure. Like many of you, we were very fortunate to have worked directly with Alex during his time as President. He was extremely focused on making 51本色 "the" place to work and learn.
On behalf of the 51本色 community, we have extended our deepest sympathies to Alex’s family -- his wife, Clare-Anne; daughter, Maria; grandsons, Jack and Sam; and his siblings, James, Lawrence, Mary Palmer, and Gloria Peters.
.
Sincerely,
