Learning Manager - Marine/Power Engineering

Continuing Part Time Commencing August 25, 2025

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Director of the Marine Training Centre, the successful applicant will be responsible for the efficient delivery of the Marine & Power Engineering program at all levels, covering such subjects as Applied Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Steam Generation, Prime Movers, Gas Turbine, Diesel, Refrigeration/Air Conditioning, Electro-Technology, and Naval Architecture, all as described in the syllabi supplied by SOPEEC for the Power Engineers and Transport Canada TP 2293 for the Marine Engineers. 
The successful applicant will be responsible to:

  • Assist learners in the development of required curriculum outcomes through such activities as individual and group instruction, self-directed learning, and performance assessments.
  • Deliver excellence in learning-centered instruction by establishing a classroom environment conducive to learning and student involvement as well as effectively planning and preparing for classes and student success.
  • Promote student success by showing flexibility in style and work schedule as well as exhibiting a passion for teaching students and engaging students in the learning process.
  • Monitor and evaluate student performance and provide constructive feedback.
  • Develop, review and update learning materials, using an online based learning management system (SAM).
  • Liaising with industry to promote student learning and program relevancy.
  • Comply with OH&S regulations.
  • Counsel learners regarding occupational goals.
  • Participate in program development and planning activities.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Candidates must possess a minimum of a 4th Class Power Engineering Certification and a 2nd Class Transport Canada Marine Engineering Certification. An undergraduate degree in marine engineering field is an asset.
  • Kongsberg’s Diploma on K-SIM Engine and Cargo Instructor Course is an asset.
  • Minimum 10 years industry experience.
  • Strong presentation, interpersonal, computer and oral and written communication skills are essential.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently yet be part of a team.
  • WHMIS certification will be considered an asset.
  • Prior teaching experience and/or a Certificate in Adult Education will be considered assets.
  • Class IV drivers license is considered an asset.

  • As a condition of employment, Faculty must complete a two-year (part-time)Certificate in Adult Education program. To achieve continuing status; all probationary, full, or part-time Faculty must successfully complete the program within their probationary period.
